Spring exhibit to showcase “Blooming Wonderful” art

A group of area artists will be celebrating the return of Spring with a new art exhibit opening this month in the gallery at Casa de Linda Art Center in New Braunfels.

The invitational show, “Blooming Wonderful,” runs March 15-May 14 and features works by more than 15 Hill Country artists. An opening reception will be held from 12-5 p.m. on Sunday, March 27.

A wide range of mediums and expressive styles are included in the exhibit, ranging from oil and watercolor to photography and fiber arts. Participating artists are from New Braunfels, Universal City, San Marcos, Austin, Canyon Lake, Spring Branch, Bulverde, and Adkins.

“It’s the perfect time for a show like this,” said Linda Calvert Jacobson, who owns Casa de Linda Art Center with her husband David. “Springtime in Texas is just magical and that’s what is reflected in this artwork.”

Art League accepting applications for children’s art scholarships

The New Braunfels Art League Community Outreach Program is accepting scholarship applications for children ages 6 to 12 to attend art classes at NBAL.

The scholarship awards will be based on a combination of the family’s financial need and the child’s interest in art.

Funding for the program is a result of a grant from the ExxonMobil Foundation Volunteer Involvement Program, said Kathy Perales, NBAL president.

“One of our members whose husband works for ExxonMobil volunteers many hours at the gallery and as a result secured this grant,” Perales said. “She specifically requested that the money be used to fund art scholarships for children taking classes at the New Braunfels Art League with Linda Jacobson, our resident children’s art instructor.”

The scholarships will be available for Saturday morning classes for ages 6-9 and Wednesday after school classes for ages 8-12 are taught by Jacobson in her studio at NBAL. They are also available for students age 8-12 who enroll in photography classes taught by David Jacobson at New Braunfels Art League Gallery.

Classes are scheduled for March and April in 4-week and 3-week terms. Scholarship applications are due at least 2 weeks before the start of a class. The first applications must be received by Feb. 16 to be considered for the classes starting March 2.

New art classes designed for an adult to share with a child
First ARTshare class scheduled for Jan. 8

Casa de Linda Art Center of New Braunfels is offering a new way for adults to share the creative experience with a special child in their life: ARTshare.

“Any combination of one adult and one child is welcome, making it a great way to share the experience with a son or daughter, grandchild, niece or nephew or even a child that you mentor or fill role of Big Brother or Big Sister,” said Linda Jacobson, owner and instructor at Casa de Linda Art Center.

Minimum age of the child varies depending on the class. In some ARTshare classes, the adult and child work on the same piece together; in other classes they work on their own art but side by side with each other.

Classes, which are scheduled for Saturday mornings, are held at either the Art Center, located at 850 S. Business I-35 in New Braunfels, or at Jacobson’s studio located above the New Braunfels Art League Gallery downtown. Space is limited so pre-registration is required.

The first class scheduled for 2011 is titled “Containers: Mugs and Treasure Jars” and will be taught be Adrienne Speer, a ceramic artist whose work is in collections worldwide. The clay class will meet twice, on Jan. 8 and 22, from 9:30 a.m.-12 noon. The adult and child, age 8-16, can choose to make matching projects or each go in their own direction for this ARTshare. Fee is $95 per adult/child pair, which includes clay, glazes and firings.

Future ARTshare classes include: a family pet papier mache class meeting Saturdays in February and taught by Jacobson; one-day silk painting and nuno felting classes taught by fiber artist Leila Reynolds; a two-day ceramic birdhouse class taught by Speer; and one-day stained glass wind chimes, stepping stone inlaid with stained glass and broken china jewelry classes taught by Lynette Clauser. Children as young as 5 can participate in the papier mache, silk painting and nuno felting classes. All other classes are open to ages 8 and up.

New Art Center offers wide range of classes, showcases local, regional artists

On Sept. 1, Casa de Linda Art Center opened in the former Pet City building on Business IH 35, about 2 blocks north of Walnut. While the location is new, the business is actually an expansion of what started as a part-time venture seven years ago.

In 2003 Linda Jacobson began offering a beginner’s painting class for children on Saturday mornings in the the back room at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery.

“I joined the art league and as a member worked in the gallery one a day a month. Not a month would go by that someone didn’t walk in asking about children’s art classes,” Jacobson explained. “Since I had taught children classes before, it just seemed natural and I began offering a Saturday morning class for ages 10 and up.”

Soon, one of the parents asked Jacobson if she could join the class. One weekly class turned into two and then expanded to three a week with an after-school class in addition to Saturday mornings and afternoons.

The following year, Jacobson rented a 500-square-foot studio above the NBAL Gallery and opened Casa de Linda Art Studio. Over the next few years she expand her classes to include not only basic painting but drawing, experimental painting and papier mache. A Summer Art Camp program that she started in the summer of 2004 thrived and Jacobson saw a need for more children’s classes year around. She added a weekly painting class for ages 8-12 and then worked in a Saturday morning art class for ages 6-9.

Meanwhile, Jacobson developed a series of contemporary wildflower paintings that she has sold and marketed internationally. For the last three years her wildflowers have been licensed for a line of limited-edition, collectible watches that sell on television in the UK. Jacobson’s wildflowers have also been featured on greeting cards sold in stores in England, Australia and New Zealand.

While she is passionate about being an artist, she is equally dedicated to teaching and offering opportunities for anyone wanting to try out painting or other types of art.

“I’ve been teaching in one form or another for more than 35 years,” Jacobson said. “I love to give people a chance to try something that they’ve always wanted to but never did.”

With the expansion and new location, Jacobson will not only be teaching more classes herself but will also be providing space to other artists who want to teach.

“When my husband, David, took the step to rent a building to expand the business, we decided that we wanted it to be more than just one person’s studio,” Jacobson said. “That’s why we came up with the words ‘Art Center’ to add to the Casa de Linda business name. It’s an umbrella that fits over all that we do.”

Classes for both adults and children are being offered at Casa de Linda Art Center. Jacobson will maintain the Casa de Linda Studio at NBAL where she will continue to teach weekly art classes for younger children.

The fall schedule includes acrylic painting and papier mache taught by Jacobson; watercolor, oil and drawing taught by Maren Phillips of Universal City; stained glass taught by Lynette Clauser, who has operated her own stained glass business in Gruene and downtown New Braunfels; photography taught by David Jacobson, known for his scenic photography of Canyon Lake and Comal County.

In addition to the teaching studios at Casa de Linda Art Center, the space also has an art gallery and gift shop.

“We are delighted to be exhibiting art by 19 artists in addition to my paintings and David’s photography,” Jacobson said. “Not only are we representing local artists from New Braunfels and Canyon Lake, but we also have works by artists from Austin, Universal City, Adkins, Bulverde, San Marcos, Kyle and Spring Branch.”

For the third year, Texas-based artist Linda Calvert Jacobson has licensed her contemporary wildflower paintings to JK Henderson for a line of limited edition, artist-inspired watches. The new designs will be sold on satellite TV shopping channels in the UK starting in May 2010.

Established in 1976, Henderson Watches is one of UK’s leading international watch wholesalers and retailers for licensed brand watches.

The deal was handled by Eaglecrown, an art agency representing Jacobson’s work for the United Kingdom and international market. The fact that JK Henderson has licensed Jacobson’s designs for the third time, proves that art is meeting consumers’ needs, says Sue Bateman, Licensing Manager for Eaglecrown.

“Linda's floral designs are appealing to customers because they are so cheerful and bright,” Bateman says. “The many colours make them easy to wear with all sorts of outfits and complement the colourful clothes that are so fashionable again.”

In addition to the watch deals with JK Henderson, Eaglecrown facilitated the licensing of Jacobson art on a line of greeting cards that were sold in the UK, New Zealand and Australia in 2007-2008. CASA DE LINDA ART STUDIO & GALLERY CELEBRATING 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Casa de Linda Art Studio and Gallery will mark its fifth anniversary with an Open House on May 1-3. The celebration continues through May 31 with a Month-of-May Studio Sale.

Canyon Lake artist Linda Calvert Jacobson left her position as managing editor of the Times Guardian in 2003 to pursue being an full time marketing consultant, freelance writer, artist and art instructor. Jacobson and her husband David opened Casa de Linda in one of the studio spaces on the second floor of the New Braunfels Art League Gallery in May 2004.

Jacobson teaches weekly acrylic painting classes for ages 10 through adult drawing workshops for adults in the studio. She also offer an extensive Summer Art Camp program for ages 5-13 every June through mid-August. In addition to using the space for teaching, the studio also serves as a small gallery to exhibit Jacobson’s wildflower paintings, which are sold to art and nature lovers around the world. Her floral designs have also been licensed internationally and she is represented by two agents, one in the U.S. and one in the U.K.

The three-day Open House celebration will include an expanded exhibit of the artist’s most recent wildflower paintings, complimentary refreshments, and specials on Jacobson’s original art and gifts. Visitors can also learn about the 2009 Summer Camp Program and sign up for a drawing that will be held at the end May.

“Any business that has stayed in business for five years has earned the right to celebrate,” Jacobson says. “But I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the support of my many students, collectors and friends. This Open House is a way to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who has helped me so far and to also encourage people who have not yet visited my studio to do so.”

American artist Linda Calvert Jacobson has released more than 20 new wildflower paintings for licensing, each in a series with 8 or more matching patterns. The designs are all a part of her “Wildflowers by Linda” collection.

The new works includes a wide range of color schemes and floral designs.

"In addition to several new paintings done is my distinctive abstract-expressionist style, I’ve added also added a series of wildflowers that I call ‘Summer of Luv.’ The colors are reminiscent of tie-dye fabrics of the 1960s,” Jacobson says.

In addition to the new releases, Jacobson has also taken each wildflower painting and worked up a series of complementing patterns.

Wildflower paintings representing a variety of styles by Linda Calvert Jacobson will be on exhibit at Café Josie through Jan. 2, 2009.

The solo exhibit at the popular Sixth-Street restaurant features 13 paintings from three different series of wildflowers by Jacobson.

“As you look around the restaurant, you’ll see that the title of this exhbit, ‘Variations on a Theme.’ is self-explanatory,” Jacobson says. “On one wall you’ll see a heavily textured landscape painting from my palette-knife meadow series. On the adjacent wall is a selection from my signature line of contemporary wildflowers. The third group of canvases are from my newest series, titled ‘Summer of Luv,’ which are inspired by the colorful tie-dye fabrics of the 1960s.”

This exhibit is being held at the same time that 24 of Jacobson’s contemporary wildflower paintings are being featured in a solo show at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. That show ends on Dec. 14. Jacobson was invited for the solo exhibit by Joseph P. Hammer, the Wildflower Center’s director of product marketing.

"Linda Jacobson's paintings and her singular style capture the vibrancy and romance of wildflowers as few other artists around," Hammer says.

After arrangements had already been made for the Wildflower Center show, Jacobson was invited to exhibit at Café Josie, giving her the opportunity to bring in work from her two other series of wildflower paintings.

A native of Texas, Jacobson has combined a lifelong love of nature, wildflowers and art to create a series of paintings that celebrate Spring year around. From her studio in the Texas Hill Country, Jacobson began her contemporary wildflower series in 2003 and has continued to develop her unique style. Last year she began her palette-knife meadow series and this past summer she added the colorful “Summer of Luv” series.

Hundreds of Jacobson’s original wildflower paintings are in private collections in numerous states in the U.S. and around the world. Jacobson is represented in Florida by Léche-Vitrines Art Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. Jacobson featured as New Braunfels Art League Artist of Month

The New Braunfels Art League Gallery is spotlighting Linda Calvert Jacobson as “Artist of the Month” for October. The exhibit features works from Jacobson’s newest series of wildflower paintings, titled “Summer of Luv,” which she began in June.

“I’ve always been drawn to the colorful tie-dyed fabrics of the 1960s,” Jacobson says. “Since 2008 was the 40th anniversary of the ‘Summer of Love,’ I decided to infuse this series of wildflower paintings with vibrant hues reminiscent of that period.”

The paintings will be on display at the New Braunfels Art League Gallery through Oct. 31. The public is invited to meet Jacobson at a reception from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 9, during downtown New Braunfels’ 4th Annual Fall Wine Stroll.

A native of Texas, Jacobson has combined a lifelong love of nature, wildflowers and art to create paintings that celebrate Spring year around. WILDFLOWER CENTER EXHIBIT FEATURES PAINTINGS BY LINDA CALVERT JACOBSON

The bold and colorful wildflower art of Linda Calvert Jacobson will be on exhibit at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, Oct. 18-Dec. 14.

More than 20 paintings will be featured in the solo show that will be held in the Wildflower Center’s McDermott Learning Center gallery. Jacobson was invited for the solo exhibit by Joseph P. Hammer, the Wildflower Center’s director of product marketing.

"Linda Jacobson's paintings and her singular style capture the vibrancy and romance of wildflowers as few other artists around," Hammer says.

Jacobson will be present for a “Meet the Artist” reception on Saturday, Oct. 18, from noon to 2 p.m.

A native of Texas, Jacobson has combined a lifelong love of nature, wildflowers and art to create a series of paintings that celebrate Spring year around. From her studio in the Texas Hill Country, Jacobson began her contemporary wildflower series in 2003 and has continued to develop her unique style. Today, she spreads joy around the world through her artwork.

Hundreds of Jacobson’s original wildflower paintings are in private collections in numerous states in the U.S. and around the world. Jacobson is represented in Florida by Léche-Vitrines Art Gallery in Fort Lauderdale. She also exhibits her wildflowers at her own gallery, Casa de Linda Art Studio and Gallery, located in historic downtown New Braunfels, Texas and through her website, www.texaswildflowerartist.com.

Meanwhile, as her interpretive, expressive and colorful wildflowers proved to be popular with a broad range of collectors, Jacobson began to offer images from the series as designs for licensing and quickly found that the wildflowers transcend geographic boundaries, appealing to art and nature lovers on an international level as was evident by the response received at annual International Licensing Expos in New York City where she exhibits her wildflower artwork to potential licensees.

The contemporary wildflowers are currently featured on a line of greeting cards in the UK, New Zealand and Australia and for a series of limited-edition, artists-inspired watches that are exclusively available in the UK. She continues to negotiate and is open to discussing additional licensing opportunities.

Jacobson’s wildflower art has been featured on the NBC affiliate TV program “San Antonio Living,” and in numerous articles in publications ranging from the San Antonio Express-News and The Texas Hill Country Sun to Art Buyer Magazine, Art Business News, The Licensing Book and License!Global magazine.

The solo exhibit of Jacobson’s paintings will be on display in the McDermott Learning Center, an open gallery space housed in 123-year-old carriage house that was once located behind the historic Scarbrough mansion in central Austin. The carriage house was relocated to the Wildflower Center in 2001 and restored onsite to its original appearance.

Texas Hill Country artist Linda Calvert Jacobson has signed with Fort Lauderdale-based Léche-Vitrines Art Alliance, a contemporary fine art gallery, for exclusive Florida gallery representation. Jacobson’s original contemporary wildflower paintings will be regularly exhibited at the Ft. Lauderdale gallery and have been added to Léche-Vitrines online portfolio.

Jacobson will be making a personal appearance at Léche-Vitrines Art Alliance on May 22 to meet potential clients and discuss her work during an artist talk.

WILDFLOWER ART BY LINDA CALVERT JACOBSON LICENSED FOR LIMITED-EDITION WATCH SERIES

Texas-based artist Linda Calvert Jacobson has licensed three of her contemporary wildflower paintings to JK Hendersons for a line of limited edition, artist-inspired watches. The deal was handled by Eaglecrown, an art agency representing Jacobson’s work for the United Kingdom and international market. The watches will be sold on satellite TV shopping channels in the UK.

Established in 1976, Henderson Watches is one of UK’s leading international watch wholesalers and retailers for licensed brand watches.

This is Jacobson’s second UK licensing deal. Late last year, Eaglecrown inked a deal on the Jacobson’s behalf for a line of greeting cards featuring six of her wildflower paintings with Tracks Publishing Ltd. The greeting cards are now in stores in the UK, New Zealand and Australia.

“We are thrilled that Linda's work is proving so popular with our customers and we hope to expand the range of her licensed product even further this year,” says Dan McLachlan, Creative Director for Eaglecrown. “Along with our new Japanese artists, Linda is firmly seated in the Top 10 of our contemporary range — it must be something to do with changing attitudes to our environment and an increased awareness of just how important and attractive Mother Nature can be.”

Jacobson signed with Eaglecrown last July after meeting company representatives at the License 2007 International Expo in New York City. More than 45 of her wildflower paintings are included in the company’s catalog. Jacobson has been working on her contemporary wildflower series since 2003 and her original paintings are in private collections through out Texas as well as California, Colorado, Louisiana, New York, Canada, Mexico and England. Jacobson will be returning to NYC to exhibit at Surtex 2008 on May 18-20 in the Casa de Linda Fine Art booth (#2531).

“As an artist, it feeds my soul to know that people enjoy my wildflowers as much as they do,” Jacobson says. “I take great satisfaction in knowing that I can spread a little happiness through my art.”

Eaglecrown licensing agency, founded in 2001 as a representative agency for Russian palaces and museums, has grown to encompass a library of over 15 million images from the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, the USA and Europe.

NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS — Texas-based contemporary wildflower artist Linda Calvert Jacobson will exhibit her series of colorful floral art for the first time at the Surtex trade show this May. Jacobson has previously exhibit in New York at the International Licensing Show.

“I’m delighted to return to New York City with my wildflowers,” Jacobson says. “With licensing deals already in the works for the UK, New Zealand and Australia, my bright, happy florals are hitting the right nerve on an international level.”

The artist, a native of Texas, has been working on her contemporary wildflower series since 2003 and her paintings are in private collections through out Texas as well as California, Colorado, Louisiana, New York, Canada and Mexico. Her work is frequently exhibited at the renowned Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas. In 2007, Jacobson signed with Eaglecrown, a licensing agent based in the UK, which has already secured her a deal for a series of greeting cards and is working on additional projects featuring her wildflowers.

“We at Eaglecrown are constantly on the lookout for new artists and photographers and, whilst exhibiting at the New York Licensing Show, we couldn't resist recruiting Linda Calvert Jacobson, the petal-pushing creator of these tantalising tastes of Texan floral splendour,” Dan McLachlan, Imagery and Creative Director, wrote in a release promoting Jacobson’s art to potential licensees and collectors.

This will be the first time that Jacobson’s work will be exhibited at Surtex. She will be one of eight artists featured in the Casa de Linda Fine Art Licensing booth (#2531, Hall 1 E) at the annual Surtex trade show for licensing art and design to be held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City on May 18-20, 2008. Jacobson is also the owner of Casa de Linda Fine Art Licensing and is coordinating the representation of the other artists along side her work.

“I have brought together this group of artists for the Surtex show whose work compliments one another perfectly,” Jacobson says. “Whether clients are looking for abstract realism or contemporary expressionism, sophisticated whimsy or interpretive photography, we have plenty to choose from.”

The other artists featured artists to be featured in the Casa de Linda Fine Art Licensing booth at Surtex are:

• Sharon Neuhaus, well-known for her playful, witty and sophisticated whimsy is ready to expand her licensing program for “Poultry in Motion,” a colorful parade of roosters.
• Myra Knapp, an oil painter whose luminous “First Light” paintings of forest scenes and series of thunderous cloudscapes, entitled “Volumes,” are highly collected and now available for licensing.
• Mary Shepard, a watercolorist with an eye for details as is evident in her nostalgic and colorful series of antique pick-up trucks and cars.
• Bill Brockmeier, a panoramic photographer who can capture a 360-degree view and turn the familiar into something extraordinary.
• Karen Gillis Taylor, a painter who has found a way to interpret wonder and romance on canvas through her colorful “ShimmerTown” series of cities at night.
• Kandyce Waltensperger, an artist dividing her time between South Texas and Northern Mexico and whose paintings of Mexican dolls, or “Muñecas,” are inspired by the colors and traditions of the Mexican culture.
• Imogene Luhrman, whose emotionally exciting watercolor acrylic paintings pulsate with colors and shapes.

Hill Country artist signs with UK-based agency

Texas wildflowers are getting some international exposure since Hill Country artist Linda Calvert Jacobson signed with Eaglecrown, a UK-based firm representing museums, galleries and artists from around the world.

“We at Eaglecrown are constantly on the lookout for new artists and photographers and, whilst exhibiting at the New York Licensing Show, we couldn't resist recruiting Linda Calvert Jacobson, the petal-pushing creator of these tantalising tastes of Texan floral splendour,” Dan McLachlan, Imagery and Creative Director, wrote in a release promoting Jacobson’s art to potential licensees and collectors.

Jacobson, who lives at Canyon Lake and paints her trade-mark wildflowers from her studio in downtown New Braunfels, met Eaglecrown’s Managing Director Judi Scott Nunn in June at the Licensing 2007 International Expo in New York City. This was the artist’s second time to exhibit at the show, which brings together companies looking to license a wide range of brands, art and properties.

A collection of 19 paintings by Jacobson are included in the company’s collection and colorfully described in the recent newsletter release, which was e-mailed to some 2,000 subscribers worldwide.

“Featuring wild splashes of bold, vivid colors to capture the essence of wild flowers in their natural setting, Linda is inspired by the simple but extravagant beauty of the floral landscapes of her native Texas,” McLachlan writes. “Her aim is to help recharge our batteries and cleanse us of the grimey fatigue that encapsulates modern day city living with the pure reflections of nature harnessed by her work.”
